Janna and Eric

Janna and Eric’s October wedding at Sade Lake Weddings was a burst of fall colors, even if it was a tad drizzly. Janna was originally going to DIY the pieces for the wedding party and additional budvase arrangements, but was referred to The Copper Dahlia by her sister, one of my music festival/camping group friends! I know how much time in planning, prep, and nail damage goes into floral work and I was happy to present her a few options that gave her time back on the week of the event.

With the main inspiration flower being sunflowers, their palatte was a mix of warm yellows, dusty lavender to deep plum, burgundy, orange/corals, and various tones of blue/teal. I was happy to find a rich chocolate and two-tone sunflower with pale yellow to pair with the cornell red and bronze dahlias from my own cutting garden.

Janna’s bouquet was a mix of the two varieties of sunflowers, amnesia dusty lavender roses, coral celosia and hypericum, mixed dahlias, autumn joy sedum, and pale yellow scabiosa. Sunflowers can be super tricky in handtied bouquets; their thick stems and tendency for the heads to want to stay in one rigid position require some strategic placement and a hefty hold- this one was meaty!

Eric’s and the other boutonnieres were a deep purple dahlia with coral celosia, hypericum, and trailing raspberry greens, ribbon wrapped in rusty orange.

The attendants wore boutonnieres the same as Eric, or carried handtied bouquets of sunflowers, amnesia roses, deep purple pom dahlias (these were so perfectly cute in person I ended up with way more than I needed), hypericum, celosia, and autumn joy sedum.

For the geometric arches provided by Sadie Lake, two arch swags accented each side. I love the two tone stain on these! The chocolate sunflowers were the star focals, and my personal favorite addition were the long strands of trailing raspberry vines (though the thorns on these are not to be reckoned with!) I also used a coral water lily dahlia, peach mini carnations, purple disbud mums, two purple tones snapdragons, amnesia roses, burgundy cushion mum, pale yellow scabiosa, cottoneaster berries, and autumn joy sedum.

Inside the event building I designed a piece for the welcome space with some of the goregous dahlias, more of the wedding flowers already mentioned, and a mauvey purple lisianthus.

Janna had chosen a super colorful and eclectic mix of budvases that were filled with a mix of all different colors from the palette. A few were placed throughout as accents in the inside event space, with the remainder sitting 3 per table in the reception space.

Now… there were no budvases on the pizza table, but as I’m writing this blog today the pizza looks pretty darn good, so enjoy the feast for the eyes- ha!
